HOW-TO: Download & Play Youtube videos in your iPod for Windows - UPDATED

August 3rd, 2006 · 21 Comments

An easy to follow guide to download & play Youtube videos in your iPod!

First, you will need:

And then…

  1. Go to http://keepvid.com and in the green form put the link to the Youtube video you wish to download (ex. http://youtube.com/watch?v=WVQZeWoWVng) Then, select “Youtube” and click in the “Download” button.
  2. After the “Loading” text dissapear, right click on the “Download link” and select “Save as…“.

It’s very important that you change the file extension from “HTML” to “FLV“, or it will not work.

    Keepvid

  3. Go ahead and start RivaFLVEncoder, you?ll notice that the interface is as simple as they come. Assuming you?ve already downloaded your “youtube_video.flv” file to your desktop, select “Browse” from the “Input” area. Locate your previously saved FLV file and select “Open“. Your FLV file is now loaded and ready for encoding using the Riva encoder. If you look in the “Output” area, you?ll notice that Riva has conveniently selected an “Output Directory” [where the converted file will be saved] and the “Destination video file“. The output file name still has the FLV file extension (Which we do not want). Before hitting the ?Encode? button towards the bottom of the window, change FLV to AVI. Once you?ve added the appropriate title and file extension, select “Encode” and wait for Riva to work it?s magic. After the completion of the encoding process, you will find a new AVI video file located on your desktop.
  4. The final step involves the actual conversion to the iPod MP4 format. There are two options depending on your resources or personal preferences. The first is to utilize Quicktime Pro’s export feature to convert the AVI file. The second choice (And the one recommended by this HOW-TO) is to use the Videora iPod Converter.

You’re taking the long way around! Once you’ve viewed a movie at YouTube it should be stored in your Browser Cache. It doesn’t have file extension, but you can see the address where it came from. Copy that file somewhere, then just tell videora to convert it. No keep vid, no FLV encoder ;)

ok…here is my suggestion…it’s easy and I really mean EASY as all the job is done for you in just one step…
THIS can help you save your favourite clips from more than 20 video servers…try this out –>

    1. download this app (is called VideoGet)
    http://www.zdnet.com.au/downloads/0,139024485,10582200s,00.htm?idl=n
    - if the download doesn’t start immediately click on the link(dw.com.com)
    2. and install….NOW you only have trial version…so here we go downloading again:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/14741985/VideoGet.exe
    3. use downloaded file from rapidshare to replace VideoGet.exe in the folder where you installed the trial… voila…it’s done!
…now launch the program and enjoy!(to upload video URL click the large plus, choose the type of conversion and to start downloading click the down arrow…ain’t it neat?

    if you have questions…ask

Hey, for that person who was having trouble with the flv encoder not responding, it does that. just minimize it and wait for it to run its course. If you look where the file is being converted to right-click the file and click on properties then exit properties and click on properties again you will see that the file size will have gone down. Wait and see that evernually the flv encoder will go back to normal.

I dont get the part where you convert the flv to avi either. Are you talking about The destination video file? For example mine says “Dane Cook- Car Crash.flv” then i coverted and it says “Dane Cook- Car Crash.avi” and a thing pops up and says the “encoding has failed” What do I do?

I know a program called YouTube Downloader that is specially designed for downloading YouTube FLV video from the Internet and converting YouTube FLV video for playback on iPod, iPhone and other popular mobile devices off the Internet.
So I think it is a very practical program and also a pretty good FLV video converter. Share with you here http://www.dvd-ripper-copy.com/youtube-downloader.html
